Martin Luther King, Jr. was born on January 15, 1929 and was assassinated on April 4, 1968. Other than being a leader for the African-American Civil Rights Movement he was also an American pastor, activist,  and humanitarian. Dr. King was best known for his role in the advancement of civil rights using nonviolent civil disobedience based on his Christian beliefs.

In 1965, Dr. King along with the SCLC (The Southern Christian Leadership Conference) helped organize the Selma to Montgomery marches. He also organized a movement through North Chicago to work on the issue of segregated housing.

Dr. King is also known for his famous speech on Washington D.C. I actually visited this site when I went to D.C and it is breath taking to be able to stand where Dr. King delivered his "I have a dream" speech. I got the goosebumps standing there.
